Can you believe this is still a growing movement?! Everyday women, celebrities on the red carpets, and young girls around the world going against society beauty rules or norms by embracing their natural armpit hair and sharing their message on social media. This movement actually has nothing to do with fashion- women are proudly flashing hairy armpits, going au natural because they are sick of shaving, and some feel if men don’t have to shave then women should have the same choice. In my opinion this has everything to do with beauty.
Many of you may remember when the talk of hairy armpits made celebrity news due to a couple Hollywood’s most notable stars. Like Modanna back in 2014 when she boldly posted a OMGEEE Instagram photo.
“Long hair…… Don’t Care!!!!!! #artforfreedom #rebelheart #revolutionoflove”
In case you missed it…less than a week into 2016, Fast and Furious actress Michelle Rodriguez was spotted flashing her armpit hair while vacationing in Cancun, Mexico.
Love it or hate it, not shaving the armpits has also turned into a call to action to be free from the mainstream idea of what defines real beauty. Amber Amour who is an activist, artist, globetrotter, motivational speaker, and sexual assault survivor started a self-love movement called Flowers and Armpit Hair.
Amber proudly shares on Instagram, “It’s time that women change what we think about female body hair. Women are told they are dirty, smelly, and gross for not shaving! Women should be free to shave without judgement and the more we flaunt our pretty pits, the more the world will get used to it!”
I am personally opting out of this movement but kudos to many you bold ladies that have decided to go au natural with your body. Women should be free without judgement to flaunt their hairy armpits. What’s your opinion?
