There are three beauty items this season I can’t live without. Concealer, moisturizing lip balm, and a bomb diggity mascara-not in that order. Mascara would have to be on the top of my list. We all have our own method when applying mascara every day sometimes twice a day and usually with our mouth wide open. Some like to curl before applying and others like myself quickly swipe a few times not thinking twice if each lash is separated. I have what I like to call the short lash syndrome-pretty much any girl with super short lashes. There are products on the market to help…from fake lashes that last up to three weeks to serums to aid in lash growth. But as a woman on the go (two boys, a busy household, business owner etc.), there are days I just don’t have the time to apply serums or fake lashes so I have to trust on a good mascara brand to do the job. Today we’ll be chatting about affordable brands you can find at any local drugstore.
Not all mascara wands or brushes are one-size-fits-all.
NYC’s big bold volume by the lash mascara above ($5). This high-tech mega brush amps up your lashes by individually coating and volumizing each and every lash up to 12x more. It’s a medium size brush perfect for the girl desiring bold lashes all day or night. A mascara like this I tend use only at night, the brush was okay but to get my smaller lashes I needed a smaller brush and wand. Like I shared in the video, I prefer a lighter application on my lashes during the day. This mascara would be perfect when creating a smokey eye look.
Apply your mascara in phases.

I read a tip once that shared if you feel like you don’t have time to make sure you’re perfectly applying your mascara through your roots then apply it on in phases throughout the day when you find the time. With the Scandal Eyes Rockin’ Curves ($13, maybe cheaper in some drugstores) I had to apply a light coat on at first, and then put on a second coat when I had the time to focus. This brush was too big for me which is why it doesn’t work if I’m on the go but if I have the time to focus it works! This mascara also has a pretty cool clever shaped applicator brush, check it out in the video.
Give your lashes a break.
Always keep in mind that your lashes are fragile especially if you’re in the routine of applying and removing fake lashes daily. Every now then try to give them a break. City Curl by NYC ($5) was smooth and easy to use, it takes your lashes from natural look to a sweet curl in one clean sweep. You’ll see – they’re instantly 60% fuller and curlier.
Stick to what you love.
If you watch my review video I stated over and over again that I prefer a natural look with my lashes. Big and bold at night and natural during the day. That’s exactly what I loved about the Mally mascara ($20 Ulta). The six-ball mascara brush worked PERFECTLY by separating my lashes, lengthening my lashes, and gave them great definition. Rule number onewhen picking out a mascara always go with what you love, I go more into detail in the video.
Hope you loved this review and enjoyed my video. This was my first beauty review and there will be more to come. Share your comments or review if you have tried any of these brands. Check out our IG photos on all brands on @1GTTV. #GirlTalkTV #Beautyonabudget #Beautytalk!
